Absence on 11/19

After reading the chapter on the Mongols, what I found most interesting was the whole section on the women. This really stood out to me because when comparing like the reading from China where the woman were extremely belittled in many ways. Whereas with the Mongols, it was very very different for the woman. They were treated a lot more as equals to the men, they wouldn't just be at home, they would work, they had responsibilities, and most importantly, they were highly respected. That shocked me but of course in a good way because it wasn't a very common thing and even today there are times where woman aren't treated as equals to men, and one could only imagine how it is in other countries. Reading this reminded me of a time an old teacher told me they visited I believe Guatemala, that the woman there were also highly respected and they held power as well. So it's always nice to read when woman are able to move up on the latter since of course there shouldn't be ...
