Absent on 10/22

After asking people from both classes what went on the day I missed class and hearing that the main part of it was about what we got on the midterm and a general update on our overall grade in the class, I decided to write a little self-reflection on how I feel I've done so far this year, and of course to see if I could get some credit for missing class.

In general, History has never been my best subject in school, but I try not to let that mindset get in the way of my school work and such. So far generally, I feel like i'm doing pretty okay in the class. I've done almost all blogs (except one) on time which I feel like captures what they need to capture. Some manage to turn out longer than others but I can remember things better when I can find a way to connect certain topics to stuff from my prior knowledge. At this point I am pretty positive I am all caught up on my blogs, I got a B+ on the essay we did and I am actually going to revise it right after this to hopefully get it up to an A, and on the midterm, i think I did okay on that as well. I feel like I answered all parts, included time periods, and examples.

I don't really have a grade in mind at the moment, but i'm pretty confident (and hope i'm right) that i'm doing well in the class.

Absence on 11/19

After reading the chapter on the Mongols, what I found most interesting was the whole section on the women. This really stood out to me because when comparing like the reading from China where the woman were extremely belittled in many ways. Whereas with the Mongols, it was very very different for the woman. They were treated a lot more as equals to the men, they wouldn't just be at home, they would work, they had responsibilities, and most importantly, they were highly respected. That shocked me but of course in a good way because it wasn't a very common thing and even today there are times where woman aren't treated as equals to men, and one could only imagine how it is in other countries. Reading this reminded me of a time an old teacher told me they visited I believe Guatemala, that the woman there were also highly respected and they held power as well. Blog Four 09/19

Question: How did the various First Civilizations differ from one another? All the civilizations differed in one way or another, Egypt and Mesopotamia were known as the 'primary' ones, even though there were others who had been much larger. By 1700 B.C.E the Indus Valley had already been in decline, which was a big difference compared to the center of Indian and South Asian civilization. Due to the decline in the Indus Valley, and the shift for the other two, it lead to all distinct memory of the Indus Valley in its' earlier times to vanish. Also with the decline, it was almost impossible to decipher the  writing they had left behind, so the only thing they had was whatever physical remains they could find. For example, the seals they would find would have images of drawings, which is what they would look at since they couldn't find out what the title had been saying. Blog 14 11/21

In chapter 12, The Worlds of the Fifteenth Century, reading about the Aztec and the Inca empire caught my attention the quickest. I will admit that a good portion of it has to do with the fact that they are Latin places and since I am a Latina who is half Guatemalan and half Nicaraguense, I tend to lean towards things that are a bit similar. To me, reading about the past of all these different places, and the way things are and seeing the images makes me want to learn some more. For example, seeing the picture of Machu Picchu, led me to looking at other pictures of different places and gave me the idea of wanting to travel to all these other spanish speaking countries to learn about them presently since there are things I have learned about them from the past.
