After asking people from both classes what went on the day I missed class and hearing that the main part of it was about what we got on the midterm and a general update on our overall grade in the class, I decided to write a little self-reflection on how I feel I've done so far this year, and of course to see if I could get some credit for missing class. In general, History has never been my best subject in school, but I try not to let that mindset get in the way of my school work and such. So far generally, I feel like i'm doing pretty okay in the class. I've done almost all blogs (except one) on time which I feel like captures what they need to capture. Some manage to turn out longer than others but I can remember things better when I can find a way to connect certain topics to stuff from my prior knowledge. At this point I am pretty positive I am all caught up on my blogs, I got a B+ on the essay we did and I am actually going to revise it right after this to hopefully...

\In chapter 6, Commonalities and Variations, I took an even closer look at the section of The Mayan: Writing and Warfare. The reasons I took a closer look at this specific one was because i'm half Guatemalan from my mom's side, and of course, a bit of prior knowledge from my Spanish class junior year. This time it was a bit easier to understand since it's in English and i'm not super fluent in Spanish so there were some stuff I couldn't quiet understand. I liked reading this section because I enjoy knowing more about my culture. I feel like it would be a very interesting experience to live in a pyramid the way people back then did. I also found that they developed a mathematical system and the number zero. Which is something I never knew prior to this. As well as the whole calculation of the day and night with all the plants. All the stuff I was taught just generally had to do with the leaders these different places had, not so much focusing on all the good thin...

The topic on the social hierarchy caught my attention the most I think. Just the overall idea on talking about who was "better" and  who had "more power" was an interesting concept to me because I was always the type to have the question of "How did this even start?" and i would have this question for pretty much anything. It's something I probably would always question and I don't know if I'll ever find an answer that in a way satisfies me. But going back, it's interesting what role was applied to who, and what they did for a living was set and what they could and couldn't do was pretty set too. Also it was cool to actually know where they each started from because it shows how things pass on and how even today it is still in place, though it's a bit more modified to work with how things are today.

In this chapter overall, I liked the idea of it discussing each of the cultures/ religions. I was also able to connect what things I have talked/ heard about before to some of these things. To me, it was more of it going into depth instead of just barely covering the surface which is what was usually done in classes. I liked reading new things about them, because not there are indeed differences between cultures and religions and a lot of people don't know much about any besides their own.
